Nur Sauri, a Bachelor of Multimedia with Honours graduate received the Royal Education Award, while his wife, who is also a graduate in the same field, received the Chancellor's Gold Medal. Both awards were presented by UUM Chancellor, Her Highness (HH) Dato' Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Tunku Panglima Besar Kedah and a member of Kedah Council of Regency during the First Session of the 27th UUM Convocation Ceremony.
Nur Sauri said, being married creates opportunity for them to spend more quality time together to study and complete their assignments at the university library.
"Both of us always check on each other to make sure that our Coursework marks are more than 50 percent and we always intensify our study efforts at least three weeks before the final exam. The drive behind our success is our secret goal, which is to graduate with a First Class Honours degree. Both of us also made sure that our class attendance is 100 percent,” he added.
Nur Sauri was born in Alor Setar, Kedah and he received his early education at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Iskandar, and his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Syed Mohamed Al Bukhary. He currently served as a part-time officer at the University Teaching and Learning Centre (UTLC), UUM while waiting for the opportunity to pursue his studies.
His wife, Hanis Salwani Othman started her primary school education at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Buluh Lima, Alor Setar before continuing her secondary education at the same school as her husband.
Hanis Salwani said, being a young married woman does not deter her from being successful as it actually helps simplify a lot of things in her studies.
During her studies at UUM, Hanis Salwani continued to show excellent performance by securing the Dean’s Award every consecutive semester and she ended up graduating with a First Class Honours degree with the Overall Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.91.
The happily married couple is eagerly awaiting the birth of their first child this December.
