CREATIVE INDUSTRY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2015 (CIIC 2015) HAS BEEN AN AWESOME EVENT
School of Multimedia Technology and Communication (SMMTC), UUM has organized an international conference specially designed for practitioners and academics in creative fields to meet together and discuss about current findings as well as future enhancement. With the theme “cultivating creative community”, the conference which is named Creative Industry International Conference 2015 (CIIC 2015), as a conjunctive event with Asian Youth Indie Film Festival 2015 (AYIFF 2015), provides various tracks for authors to share with the community, from traditional to sophisticated creative technologies ranging from fundamental arts to film industry to system development.
Such fresh theme has enabled CIIC 2015 to receive more than 80 papers from various countries including New Zealand, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Yemen, and Korea other than Malaysia. Having every paper rigorously reviewed and evaluated by at least two experts in respected area, CIIC 2015 eventually accepts 62 papers including six invited papers for publication in five reliable journals, which is a good achievement as this the first time CIIC is organized. More fascinatingly, as a result of the systematic reviewing process, CIIC 2015 has managed to attract and convince a Scopus-indexed journal to publish 20 of the papers in its special issue. On top of that, five papers have been awarded with “Best Paper Award”. They are “The important attributes of Islamic fashion marketing in the mind of Muslim women community in Indonesia” (Nugroho J. Setiadi and Devy M. Puspitasari), “Persuasive technology: a systematic review on the role of computers in awareness study” (Mohamad Lutfi Dolhalit, Sobihatun Nur Abdul Salam, and Ariffin Abdul Mutalib), “Identifying visual representation for national brand identity in packaging design” (Khatijah Md Saad and Muhammad Zaffwan Idris), “Designing a coffee shop: did you consider the atmosphere?” (Siti Aisyah Muhammad and SungPil Lee), and “Design of the usability measurement tool for multimodal mobile applications” (Ahmed S. Al-Aidaroos and Ariffin Abdul Mutalib). The Awards have been presented in the glamorous AYIFF Gala Night.
During the conference, various positive feedbacks have been delivered by the presenters and participants. As an example, Nugroho J. Setiadi from Indonesia expressed that “…this has been a successful conference. Although first time it is organized, the conference is very smooth. I enjoy making network with other participants..”. It was agreed by Ahmed S. Al-Aidaroos, who expressed “…I have attended many conferences before, but CIIC is really professional. It provides me an appropriate venue for me to expand my network in the creative industry…”. Meanwhile, the keynote speaker, Mr. Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, the Director of Creative Multimedia Department at Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), who talked on “Policy and Prospects of Creative Industry” also expressed his excitement by saying “..I am looking forward for sharing with the audience in this conference. While it brings academics and practitioners together, it could build-up a healthy synergy to further nurture the creative industry. So, I hope this conference will keep continue in the coming years…”. It was addressed in a very simple-but-warm opening morning, in which Dr. Rosli Mohammed, dean of SMMTC address a brief speech in welcoming the conference delegates.
